When labour starts you should not have to remember a birth class. I take care of the comfort, keep the room calm, and make sure the plan you made is still in the room with you.
I work close to the ground: hands, breath, warm cloth, a voice you already know. Rebozo wrapping, slow rocking, position changes — practical things that help a body doing hard work. I am not there to steer you toward one kind of birth.
I came to this after my own two births. I know the strength and the vulnerability of it firsthand, and I know how quickly a room can start making decisions around you instead of with you.
In practice that means asking what you actually need rather than assuming, and changing what I do as that changes — including knowing when to be in the room and when to leave you to it. I work with you and the people you have chosen to have around you, helping partners and other support people understand how they can actually help.
So I do nothing clinical and I never speak for you. I help you ask the questions and understand the answers, and the decisions stay yours.
I work across Montreal Island, and I support families in English and in Spanish. No one should feel alone, unheard or unsupported in that room.
