Visita posparto

La primera semana dura,acompañada

Two hours in your home in the days after the birth. Healing, feeding, sleep, and the conversation that nobody ever schedules.

Your body

What is normal, what is not, and when to call someone. Bleeding, stitches, afterpains, the first shower, the first walk. Most of the worry in the first week comes from not knowing which is which.

Feeding

Latch, positions, supply, pumping, bottles. I work with whatever you are actually doing rather than what you were told you should be doing, and I say plainly when something needs a lactation consultant instead of me.

Going back over the birth

Out loud, in order, at your pace. This matters far more than people expect, and it is usually the part no one makes room for.

The ordinary things

A meal, a load of laundry, the baby held while you shower or sleep. Practical help is not a lesser kind of care in that first week.

What comes next

Referrals if you want them, for lactation, pelvic floor or perinatal mental health. I would rather hand you to the right person than be the only one you have.

Where my part ends

I am not a lactation consultant, a nurse or a therapist. There is a great deal I can help with, and there are things that need one of those instead — I will say so plainly rather than improvise, and I will help you find the right person.

Preguntas sobre esta visita

Usually in the first week or two, when the visitors have gone and the reality has arrived. We arrange the timing once the baby is here.

Yes. The first weeks are hard on both of you, and the person holding everything together often needs the visit most.

Then say so. I will listen without making it into a crisis, and if you would be better served by a perinatal mental health professional I will help you find one.
